Explaining the Catholic Faith in the Modern World
8th – 10th August 2008, Fawley Court, Henley-on-Thames
The First Evangelium Summer Conference, sponsored by CTS, has been an astounding success, with young people describing it as ‘the best weekend of my life’, an ‘answer to prayer’ and an ‘inspiration and encouragement’.
Over the 8th – 10th August over one hundred young people assembled at the Shrine of the Divine Mercy, Fawley Court, for a series of talks, workshops and other activities addressing the crucial evangelistic question of our time – how to reach out and explain the Catholic Faith to people in the modern world.
Speakers at the Conference included CTS authors Prof. Roy Schoeman, Fr Jerome Bertram CO, and Joanna Bogle, as well as Fr Thomas Crean OP, Fr Reto Nay, Fr John Saward, and Walter Hooper. Delegates also represented CASE, Aid to the Church in Need, Family Life International, St Anthony Communications, St Patrick’s School of Evangelisation, the Good Counsel Network, the Iona Institute and the Linacre Centre. Although the topics addressed were often serious, there was also much good humour and a great sense of joy. The liturgy and music were organised by past and present seminarians of the Venerable English College in Rome. Many young people especially praised the love and reverence evident in the celebration of Holy Mass.
The Conference was organised by Fr Marcus Holden and Fr Andrew Pinsent of the Evangelium Project, in association with the Catholic Truth Society. As Fr Pinsent describes the approach, “We aimed to provide orthodox Catholic teaching with challenging intellectual depth and liturgical beauty, very much the vision of Pope Benedict XVI. The enthusiastic response of the young people present at the Conference confirms the fruitfulness of this approach and encourages us in planning future projects of this kind.”
Many young people left the Conference asking for more and the Evangelium Project is hoping to organise a second Conference in summer 2009.

Other comments from young people present at the Conference:
> The best weekend of my life. It was really an answer to prayer. Before I could say, “Lord, I love you and accept the Church,” now I can say, “Lord I love you and I love your Church.”
> All of our talks, discussions etc. were permeated by prayer. I’m leaving here rejuvenated both in my own faith and feel more equipped in sharing the riches of the Catholic faith. Please hold another conference next year!

W miniony weekend, w Fawley Court odby?a si? konferencja Evangelium zorganizowana przez dwóch ksi??y brytyjskich z Evangelium Project pod patronatem Catholic Truth Society. Uczestniczy?a w niej katolicka m?odzie? brytyjska do lat 35.
Konferencja by?a wielkim sukcesem. Wzi??o w niej udzia? oko?o 120 uczestników - byli pod wra?eniem tego niezwyk?ego miejsca. Na formularzach ankiety, które na koniec konferencji wype?niano, powtarza?y si? bardzo podobne opinie: „Najlepszy weekend w moim ?yciu”; „Msza by?a najwa?niejsza - bardzo poruszaj?ce do?wiadczenie”… Szkoda, ?e polowy o?tarzyk wywieziono ju? z kaplicy, bo to mog?oby uczestnikom konferencji pokaza?, jak ?o?nierze na polu walki tworzyli swoje polowe ko?cio?y.
Oprócz tematów konferencyjnych, g?ównym punktem dyskusji by?a sprawa sprzeda?y Fawley Court. Panowa?o powszeczne zdumienie i niedowierzanie: - Jak mog? takie miejsce sprzedawa?? - pyta?a mnie jedna z dziewczyn. - Nie mo?na dopu?ci?, aby miejsce to wpad?o w prywatne r?ce! Joanna Bogle, znana katolicka pisarka skomentowala: - By?oby wielk? szkod? straci? tak wspania?? posiad?o??. Nie ma zbyt wielu miejsc na takim poziomie.
Ojciec Andrew Pinsent, jeden z organizatorów konferencji powiedzia? mi, ?e Fawley Court jest jest bardzo s?abo promowane, niewiele ludzi o nim wie. Chcia?by zrobi? wszystko, byleby tylko to miejsce zosta?o w r?kach katolików. -Widzia?em cud pog??bienia wiary - mówi?. - My?l?, ?e sprzeda? Fawley Court to tragedia. Mog?oby by? przecie? centrum nowej ewangelizacji w Europie, a nawet katolickim uniwersytetem. Nie byliby?my w stanie kupi? tak wyj?tkowego miejsca, poza tym, za?amanie na rynku mieszkaniowym powoduje, ?e to z?y moment, by sprzedawa?. Inaczej mówi?c, kto? zarobi?by wiele pieni?dzy, kupuj?c od Ko?cio?a tanio, a sprzedaj?c drogo. Nie ma takiego drugiego miejsca w Wielkiej Brytanii. W ten weekend widzieli?my - mówi? ojciec Andrew Pinsent, któremu wtórowa? drugi z organizatorów przedsi?wzi?cia, ojciec Marcus Holden, dodaj?c, i? w Anglii jest niewiele miejsc konferencyjnych mog?cych pomie?ci? tak? liczb? ludzi.
M?odzie? bardzo namawia?a ksi??y, by kolejna letnia konferencja ponownie odby?a si? w?a?nie w Fawley Court. Niestety, ksi??a Marianie nie przyjmuj? ju? rezerwacji na imprezy, które odb?d? si? w przysz?ym roku.
Istnieje zapotrzebowanie na centrum rekolekcyjne. Polska m?odzie? katolicka je?dzi na rekolekcje do ksi?dza Forysia, do angielskiej parafii w Harlow (Essex). Co 6-8 tygodni odbywaj? si? tam Dni Skupienia. Ka?dorazowo uczestniczy w nich oko?o 120 osób. Informacji o tych wyjazdach udziela ksi?dz Krzysztof Ciebie?. (tel. 0207 226 9944).
